Supanova Sillyness (its a long post!)

Feeling:
Eating: Tic Tacs I found in my room.
Listening to: Gastons Theme - Beauty and the Beast
As some of you may know, the annual Brisbane geek-gathering (aka 'Supanova') was on the 13th-15th of April. I once again, decided to volunteer (and cosplay) this year. Cosplaying was mostly fun. On Saturday I went as Jessica from Dragon Quest VIII, but not many people recognised me. On Sunday I cosplayed as Meg Griffin from family guy, more perople recognised me but they weren't quite sure if I was actully cosplaying or if it was just a coincidence. I will eventually post many pictures of mine and other's costumes soon. Being a volunteer also had its pros and cons.

Pros:

Free Entry (you get to walk past all the big queues and laugh at the peoples!)
Free Lunch
Free Shirt and Lanyard (all volunteers get these)
Not too much work (Hopefully, and that it's not too tricky)
Free mooched items (caps, posters, shirts, ect - all given away by the vendors to the volunteers)
Authority and the power to control the masses (Muahahaharr!)
Cons:
Getting a bad job (it's rather like a lucky dip, you never know what you get to do)
Getting bad shift times (This is really irritating if you wanted to see something, and end up missing it)
Working with really really irritating people
Being sore and achey afterwards
Papercuts from stuffing showbags ;-;

Honestly though, I didn't think it was as good this year. The stalls were pretty average, the guests wern't anything too special, and the showbags were lousy. The job I was given was 'RESERVE' which meant if someone couldn't (or didn't) turn up for their shift then I had to do it. When I didn't have anything to do, I was told to wait in the volunteers area until I was needed. This meant that I did a lot of sitting around doing nothing (it beats standing up doing nothing). I went and 'crowd controled' for two voice actors from Naruto (Saske and Tamari) for a while, which wasn't too bad. The only real bad thing was that I had an 'Obsessive Comic Nerd' (more on my labling of various geek and nerd types to come in a later post) working on shift with me. He wanted me to buy some Spiderman or Wonder Worman comics, or to play the new Naruto trading cards with him. He just kept going on, and on, and on about them and I couldn't get him to stop. So I eventually ended up hiding in the Madman Anime Theater to escape.

I also (for the first time) made it to the Kamehameha Bastoff Competition. In which people shred their lungs apart, trying to perform the best Kamehameha and entertain the audience. It was a jolly good rip-roaring riot. No, seriously. It really almost became a riot. Someone cosplayed as one of the boxes from Evangelion; 01 SEELE SOUND ONLY, if you've seen it you'll know what I mean. Anyway, the box was very popular, but unfortunatly didn't make it past Round 3. Along comes the Final Round. When the organisers aked the audience to decide the winner everyone cheered "BOX! BOX! BOX! WE WANT THE BOX!! BRING BACK THE BOX!!" This went on for quite a while with well over a hundred people stomping and shouting. For a moment there, I really felt sorry for the poor organisers. Eventually they consulted with the other finalists and caved into the insistant cheers and gave the winning prize to the box. Everyone cheered again and then went home.

Shouting for the magical black box was not my only highlight, I caught a thief! (and got a pretty nice reward) Someone nicked a 2 foot tall cardbord cut-out of Dr. Who, thinking that it was free along with the piles of posters the vendor was handing out. Upon noticing it was missing, the vendor said they would give a prize to the one who brought the picture back. (it was late Sunday afternoon and they were starting to pack up) I had seen the culprit not a minute ago showing it off to his friend, so I quickly ran after him.
"Halt theif!" I demanded, he must've heard me because he started running. I ran after him, dodging the cosplayers and small children left and right. He turned suddenly and skidded on the smooth concrete floor, knocking over a display of Spawn Figurines. I knew that was my moment. Leaping inches into the air I screamed as I tacked him to the ground.
"THIEF! That is not yours! It must be returned immedietly!" I shouted as I wrestled the Dr.Who cut-out from his desperate clawing hands.
"Nooooo! My presssccioussss!" the thief hissed at me. I detangled from this clammy grasp and stood above him.
"Stealing is wrong!" I said strikling a dramtic pose, before fleeing back to the vendor with my recovered loot.
"Oh thankyou kind stranger!" The vendor said gratefully, "As a reward I give you +400exp, The Swift Boots of the Badger+30SPD, and a Sonic Screwdriver." And another quest had been completed in my journal.

Okay, so thats not exactly how it happened, but fact is that I sill got my Sonic Screwdriver, which I am so proud of. Heehee heeheehee. Stealing is wrong. All in all, Supanova was fun, but I'm just glad that it's now Supanover, (haha Oh what an awful pun!) I'm also glad that it only happens once a year (unless I go to Sydney, which I probably won't).

Ehh, I told you it was a long post - pictures will come soon.
